Securing a Permanent Home for CJH
The lease on Couchiching Jubilee House’s current transitional house is about to expire with no option for renewal. It’s critical that a new house be secured immediately. We cannot risk losing one of the most important elements of its program – safe housing for women and their families in transition. This situation is urgent. We need to secure a permanent place to call “home” for Couchiching Jubilee House.
The challenge is to raise $500,000 to purchase a new facility.
We are calling on the Orillia area community to help secure the funding needed for our transitional home. Making an investment in this important project will mean investing in the lives of women and their families in our own community.
The New House Will Include:
- Four independent apartment units for up to four women and their children.
- A common area for women to take part in CJH programming and meetings.
- A fenced yard with a play structure for children.
- 24-hour surveillance for the protection of all house occupants.
The ideal location for the home is in the downtown Orillia core. It needs to be accessible to public transportation, and close to amenities such as grocery stores, doctors’ offices, and more.
Planning Progress to Date:
- CJH secured a grant through the Ontario Trillium Foundation in 2009 to hire a capital campaign manager and begin implementing new fundraising strategies.
- A fundraising planning study has been completed and has helped guide CJH’s plans moving forward.
- A business plan has been completed and reaffirms CJH’s long-term plans to purchase a new transitional home and maintain ongoing operations.
- We have formed a volunteer campaign committee. Our dedicated team members are in conversation with major community leaders in Orillia. Team members include:
