I am a 22-year-old single mother of two children, ages one and two. I am now living in Jubilee House. With help, I am working to improve the lives and the future of my children and myself. My children and I were living in my mother's basement. I was having a very hard time finding an apartment. I had very little education, and, with no one to watch my children during the day, no hope of finding a job. I was feeling depressed; I could see no way to improve our lives. I felt like I couldn't give us a very bright future. I began going to a parenting group, and that's when I met Charlene. She told me about Jubilee House. It sounded too good to be true.

Moving in to Jubilee House was a wonderful opportunity for my children and me. It still amazes me that all the people who support Jubilee House are willing to help someone like me, someone they don't even know. The volunteers are incredible. They help out in so many ways: rides to the grocery store, babysitting, advice, and just being there to talk to. They have become my friends, and I hope we will remain life-long friends. They have made me feel important, supported, and cared-for. They are amazing.

Since moving to Jubilee House, I have sorted out my life. I have started school, and will graduate this year. I plan to go to college. I know I can get an education and one day have a career with which I can support my family. We are all very positive a bout our future now, and it looks very bright. Jubilee House has helped me more than I can say.

Stephanie

My name is Stephanie, and the Jubilee House has helped me in so many ways. Without the Jubilee House, my son and I would not have had a home. I was 18 when I applied to the Jubilee House; my son was only one year old. My roommate had moved out. I had no food in my fridge, because I was paying over $750 a month for rent. I was a week from the electricity being shut off. I was a wreck; I just wanted to give up. But then Charlene and crew took my son and me in, and my whole outlook on life changed.

I realized that with help and support I could become the person I always wanted to be, and not just another statistic in the 'teen mom' column. I am currently finishing grade 12. In September I will be starting my Personal Support Worker course. I plan to open my own retirement home one day. When I am older, with a home and a career, I will look back at my time at the Jubilee House and remember how completely a short stay there changed my direction in life. Thank you very much. You have changed a life.
