Volunteering
Couchiching Jubilee House depends on volunteers to provide a broad variety of services. Volunteers are assigned responsibilities in the area that best matches their interests and strengths with the organizations needs.
Regardless of specific duties, all volunteers must demonstrate a commitment to Couchiching Jubilee House's mission and program goals, a non-judgmental attitude, strong listening skills, adherence to a strict set of confidentiality guidelines, and a willingness to commit to the program far a minimum of one year.
Some volunteers support the work of Couchiching Jubilee House directly, and are intimately involved in residents' lives. Others provide equally important operational support, at arm's length from residents and day-to-day details.
Every effort is made to determine the most suitable role for a given volunteer.
The application process for prospective volunteers begins with the completion of the Volunteer Application form (see below link) and an interview with the Volunteer Coordinator or designated deputy.
Volunteers must show an understanding of CJH confidentiality policy, and an appreciation of its importance. All volunteers must sign the CJH Confidentiality Statement.
Those volunteers interested in working directly with the women and children who live at Couchiching Jubilee House must also provide a police records check and two references.
Approval will be followed by orientation and training sessions, and volunteers are expected to work well with all volunteers and are directly accountable to the Executive Director and Coordinator of Volunteers.
